It doesn't get more inspiring than lunch with Jackie. The powerhouse journalist and TV presenter is larger than life and a laugh a minute. Impossibly glamorous, she's also hugely approachable, which is a major part of her appeal. What makes Jackie so special? It's that she's not afraid to stand up for other women, and to be a role model for those who don't have quite as much confidence (yet). Whether she's writing opinion pieces for Metro and Refinery29, or presenting documentaries for Channel 4, she's always got lots going on. We sat down with Jackie to chat all things empowerment, healing, and the best snails in France. You can get more Jackie on her Instagram.

Can you introduce yourself in a few sentences? What do you do for work?

I am a TV Presenter, journalist and body acceptance gal pal, who loves to empower women and girls to quite frankly not settle to be ordinary when you could be extraordinary…

How did you get to where you are today?

How long you got? Bloody Nora…

I would say through being a professional daydreamer: if you can see it in your head you can create it. The life I am living I dreamt about before I lived it. I knew my life would be this way because I saw it, and took actionable steps towards it.

The more rejection you get the more resilient you become; nobody can see what’s in your head and you have to focus on that.

Also community - realizing that there is someone at home right now who is wishing to be something but they haven’t seen anyone do it, so they give up. The founder of Topicals said this in a Tiktok that ‘’Every time you give up on your dreams, someone gives up on theirs.’’

What does living a good life mean to you?

There’s only one very good life to me and that’s the life you know you want and you make it yourself, exactly how you want it to be. Mine includes lychee martinis and lots of pasta and sleeping on the beach with a novel with sand in my toes! [Social Capital note: so does ours…]

What’s something you wish you’d known 5 years ago?

Just because the world hasn’t caught onto your ideas yet doesn’t make them wrong.

Who’s someone you look up to?

Josephine Baker, Demi Moore, Grace Jones, The Spice Girls!

What’s the best life lesson you’ve learnt?

You cannot achieve your way out of your own trauma, and it is at your highest moment that it will catch up with you: you can’t run forever because eventually you will run out of breath.

What do you dream about?

I dream about a life where I create more space to heal, reset and imagine. Quite frankly, I don’t nap or daydream enough, and I need to prioritize those!

What is one thing you recommend?

Don’t go on Instagram until midday. It will change your life.

What song would be the soundtrack to your life?

Finally, give us a hotspot in your city, or a city you love!

La Colombe d'Or in Saint-Paul de Vence, France. It is a hotel too — it has an iconic rich artistic history, and the food is absolutely delicious. I recommend the snails in a parsley sauce and for the main the red mullet (red snapper). You’ll leave wanting more!!
